Matis BB Cream
BB cream. It’s causing some excitement and confusion within my family. My sister arrived over to my folks sporting her new BB’d face recently, and next minute my mother is on the phone to me, inquiring about this ‘BB thing’ – then getting confused about ‘CC’ creams! Which I have to say, I can’t blame her!
My other sisters, noticing the ‘BB’d’ sibling, now want to know about it. Which led me to try out the Matis BB cream. I have to be honest, I like my coverage, so the idea that BBs being like special tinted moisturisers was slightly putting me off. Saying that – I LOVE Matis as a brand – so it was no chore to try it out. More about that later.
Journalist Nicole Buckler Kelly, a friend of my (‘BB’d’) sister, tried the Matis BB also.
Nicole, for her part of this review, was interested in the background to BBs and did a little research. I, for one, needed the education and I’m the better for it:
“Korean women, obsessed with looking gorgeous at all times, swear by it. One in five South Korean women of reproductive age has had plastic surgery. BB cream is what they use in the meantime to keep their looks young and flawless. So, if you want the experts on any beauty product outside surgery then ask a South Korean hottie. They know their beauty stuff. Originally, it was developed by a German dermatologist in the 1960s, however the Koreans got a hold of it and developed it further in the 1980s. Now there are practically no make-up bags without BB Cream in Korea since this time. BB creams make up 13 percent of the cosmetics market in South Korea. BB creams were developed to be an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturiser, primer, foundation and sunblock. And finally, women in the Western world have discovered the product, and it has been distributed here since 2012.
BB cream (BB stands for beauty balm or blemish base), is promoted in the West as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturiser, primer, foundation and sunblock. The good thing about BB cream is that it can be used as an alternative to foundation, and all the while treating blemishes such as acne, sun spots and age spots.
So enough of its reputation, how does it feel to use it? It is supposed to work in two ways: to smooth wrinkles and keep the skin hydrated. Well we can safely say that it checks that box. Within a few days the skin does feel smoother and less dry. It is also supposed to make the skin more “plumped”. And actually that is how skin feels after applying the BB Cream. The good news is that it contains a sunscreen so you don’t have to worry about further skin degradation from the sun. If you are hesitant and want to try one product, give this a go. It does lots of different things and it does make a difference to your skin tone. Just make sure you apply lots before you visit Korea, because we are already behind, they started on the BB Cream 20 years ago!”
So far, I am also getting compliments about my skin, so I’m feeling less jealous ;)! Ok, coverage wise, I alluded to it above and there’s no getting away from it – BBs are not there for coverage, so a little mineral over it in the evening will cover it, literally. In saying that, the Matis BB did have a good pigment to it, a healthy glow with medium coverage. Still, I always need that little extra, but that’s just me. The average skin type needs nothing more than a good product like this one.
Also, product volume wise, there is a lot in the Matis BB. And rightly so! If you use one product for everything you need; why should it not last that bit longer?
