All Natural Eco Soy Candles
These ‘eco soys’ arrived in the post the other day and I have been experiencing a sense of wellbeing ever since. After I lit the first candle: ‘Orange and Palmarosa’ – I had to leave the room and come back in to get a good sense of it. Quick wiki and palmarosa is:
“… extracted from Cymbopogon martini (also known as Cymbopogon martinii var. martinii) of the Gramineae family and is also known as East Indian and Turkish geranium, as well as Indian rosha and motia.”
The scent filled the room with that kind of luxurious scent that permeates a high quality spa. I loved it!
The main selling point of these candles is that they are made from soy, as well as pure essential oils. Emma Jane, who is based in Louth and hand pours all of her candles – explains it better:
“Soy wax candles are becoming a popular alternative to paraffin wax candles because they are made from plant oils which are natural, biodegradable and renewable, and so are a lot more environmentally friendly compared to other candles that use petroleum in their wax.
Paraffin can contain dangerous toxins and carcinogens such as benzene, acetone, lead & mercury when burned. Moreover, paraffin produces more soot, coating ceilings and walls. Paraffin burns at a higher temperature meaning that is burns faster; it is not water soluble or biodegradable.”
I would definitely believe this about fumes, I bought an expensive designer candle a while back. It made me feel ill after I had it lit for an hour. I haven’t used it since.
What I also like about Emma Jane Maguire is her offer to re-pour her candles with the same or new concoctions, when you send her back the containers.
Anyway, I am going to be whisked away from my office smelling bliss to get lunch. It will be nice to return to work.

P.S. – Since I wrote this, Emma’s candles were featured very favourably on Tv3’s Expose. She is also selling in retailers throughout the country and online as well. Well done Emma!
